NO OTHER HOPE
The American Dream that is now being assaulted penetrates to the very core of any human instincts that are not yet transformed by a new identity in Christ. I don’t think we American Christians have any idea of how “American” we are in our sense of “life” and what makes it good.
We have dual identities and loyalties, but one will most define us, dominate our minds and emotions, and shape our responses. Our dismay over America today can distract us from the more important aspects of our identity in Christ.
The issue here is not the national election or who ought to be inaugurated on Dec. 20. And while many of us Conservatives would identify with much of the agenda of the Patriots, that’s also almost beside the point. We are “about” something else. Some-ONE else.
We’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg, and many would become totally dysfunctional (and probably incontinent) if they really knew what lies ahead. We must be ALERT.
So, where do our eyes go? What/who are we most watching and listening to as we wait to see what happens next? Is it things of the earth or those related to God and the Church?
Jesus said: ““The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Mt. 6:22-23 niv. What is the “light” within us?
And how about this?: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Col. 3:1-3 niv
We must seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Mt. 6:33) even as we grieve the loss of the “America” that we have known, and everything that we need in order to live well in this Day will be added unto us. We have no other hope.
