"Refresh" - Last Revised 1/5/15

Take me back to the Harbingers Main Page
Our world is changing in many ways. Things are not what they were even recently, nor what they will be in the future - - possibly the near future - - because what we are seeing today is certainly a harbinger of things to come.
It seems to me that we have reason to believe that serious troubles lay ahead. If so, countless will suffer but some will despair and others will not. Many will die, some with terrified screams and others with joyful anticipation of soon meeting their Lord Jesus.
In the meantime some will hoard for themselves and others will prepare to share generously. Some will toss and turn in bed while others sleep peacefully. And - - some will continue to hit the snooze button while others quietly seek God and draw together as "the Church".
The bottom line for all depends on the measure of their knowing God, through His Son Jesus Christ. That has everything to do with eternity, but it also has everything to do with now - - and it is especially so in a day of trouble.
My prayer is that, whether the days ahead are good or evil, you will know the wonder of walking with God in a way that gives you identity, purpose and peace. I hope you can feel the optimism that captures my spirit as I look at storm clouds that point toward possible turbulence ahead - - and clouds there are! (10/3/14)
Foundational Premesis
#1 - You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. Jesus, Mt. 24:6-8 (9/28/14)

#2 - The growing darkness in our land is accelerating at an astounding rate. We are in a day when evil is called good and good evil, as in Isaiah 5:20. This darkness is demonic; it reaches into every aspect of our society; it is worldwide; and it is promoted at the highest levels of our government. (10/14/14)

#3 - God is sovereign over all. Isaiah 46:9-10, I Chron. 29:11-12 Nothing happens without His knowledge and permission, and all things, including evil, ultimately serve Him. Prov. 16:4 Nations rise and fall according to His purposes, as in Acts 17:26-27. He is our place of refuge and He has the final word over the nations. Psa. 46 (9/28/14)
#4 - As God is "giving Satan more rope" He is concurrently releasing among His people the gifts and resources to carry out the Great Commission and move us toward the fulfillment of Rev. 7:9-10. Bible translation is accelerating at a rate that was unthinkable only a few years ago and the Word is being communicated in ways that even those who would forbid it are helpless to prevent. These are exciting days in the Kingdom of God and opportunity has never been greater! All who choose to do so can be part of that! (9/29/14)
#5 - Light shines most brightly in darkness. The suffering of ongoing and irresolvable Arab/Israeli conflict is drawing many to Christ in that region. The despair of Islamic legalism; its attitude toward women and “infidels”; and the atrocities of radical Islam are opening the eyes of Muslims who are turning to Christ by the tens of thousands. Hopefully, Americans will turn to Him in great numbers at some point as darkness grows here but I wonder if there is enough Light to show them the way until the Church itself repents. (9/30/14)
#6 - Government: On Jan. 17, 2009, three days before Barack Obama’s first inauguration I posted; "Christians ought to be prepared for many far-reaching changes in American life as our leaders apply to the unprecedented needs in our world, the new and untested moral and political assumptions which now govern us." (2, Page 8, here) How true! The intimidating power of the court-supported LGBT community is bringing change that violates the core moral values of every healthy society in history. The brazen advancement of Socialism is deliberate even as it erodes the core of our democracy. The fabricated "global warming threat" and other greed/emotion/power driven agendas blend with an increasingly dictator-style Oval Office, and we haven't seen anything yet. Marshall Law is a predictable tool of such a government when citizens protest, even legitimately according to our Constitution. (10/17/14)
#7 - America: One does not need to embrace conspiracy theory in order to see that days of trouble for America are near. We are wavering in our support of Israel. We have an unsustainable but growing national debt. Our economy, including Wall Street, is more fantasy than reality. We are a nation given to wars. ISIS is most certainly within our borders even now and is more likely to cause us devastating injury than we are likely to eradicate it. The unavoidable result of the slaughter of 35,000,000 innocents in the womb, and our growing appetite for sexual perversion and for gore, has taken us down the slippery slope to the precipice of a crevasse. God would not need to declare judgment upon us - - we have violated the governing principles of life and the consequences are predictable. America is not Israel but the truth of Deut. 30:15-20 stands for any nation that was founded out of God's heart and for His purposes, but who then turns its back on Him. The wise will not pretend otherwise. (10/17/14)
Someone please tell me - - did any nation in history ever know God's obvious blessing in the way America has, for such a long time, and then so totally turned its back on Him in the way we are now doing? Was the Israel of Jer. 19:3-5 any worse than us and should we expect any lesser consequences? (10/15/14)
#8 - World: Growing anti-semitism is not to be ignored. And there are many reasons for the nations of the world to unite in dealing with terrorism, disease, "global warming," promoting LGBT agenda, drought, earthquakes and other natural disasters, economic issues including distribution of wealth, and other phenomena and causes. The Club of Rome advocates globalization in a way that naturally evolves into the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. The five "clusters" defined here identify their agenda. Mounting desperation on the part of many is setting us up for a centralized world government, and candidates are ready to assume that role as the opportunity presents itself. (10/10/14)
#9 - Many Christians recognize what is happening but will not take action because they love their comforts, pleasures and "toys" too much (I John 2:15-17), and because of fear of what others would think. The Mark 12:30-31 Kingdom of God priorities; the seeming restraints of the narrow gate of Mt. 7:13-14; and Jesus' "must" of Luke 9:23-26 seem like too high a price to pay in spite of the sober warning of v26 there and of Mt. 7:21-23. (9/28/14)
#10 - This is not a pretty picture but it is a potential Isaiah 60:1-3 setting in which myriads will come to God's Light as the darkness becomes more pervasive and He enables the saints to live or die for Him. For some who call themselves "Christian" today it will become the most glorious days of our lives, and for others it will be agonizingly confusing and painful. For many who don't confess Christ today it will be their final opportunity to choose to do so. (9/29/14)
#11 - There is good reason for American Christians to respond to these realities and my prayer is that this material will help provoke and equip some to do so! The souls of men are at stake. A key principle is that we must act out of seeking the heart of God more than from nationalism or personal welfare. America could only get to this place because of the failure of God's people to be salt and light, so we need to do "first things first." We must pursue Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves, and then trust Him in whatever happens to us personally and to America. (9/30/14)

 * Here’s a bottom-line thought. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by viewing American and world events as a wake-up call. If Christian-Americans were to take this to heart the resultant repentance and new Life would make us more like the people God always intended us to be. This would extend the time of God’s grace upon America; and/or empower us to stand firm and to serve Him effectively through difficulties. If such difficulties are only imagined by some (like me), we would have become a more authentic and vibrant Church and would have enjoyed God in an incredibly richer way. Regardless, we win. And regardless, it would be another proof that all things, even evil, ultimately serve the Lord our God! - Isaiah 46:9-10 - II Peter 3:8-9
